......legally speaking. I have a hard time understanding the Senate Democratic caucus' reasons for not seating Illinois Senate-designee Roland Burris. Sure, Gov. Blagojevich has all the markings of a clown-ass chump. And, the odds are, he'll be found guilty of some pay-to-play offerings.
Nonetheless, Burris, by all accounts, is clean as a whistle. He's also over 70 years of age and has pledged not to seek a full-term in 2010. He's an ideal caretaker. Plus, Harry Reid gets an extra automatic pro-Democratic vote.
Why all the shenanigans?

As soon as the news hit, Harry Reid went too far in announcing he wouldn't seat anyone Blagojevich sent to DC. That hubris has now bit Reid in the butt because he'll look like a fool for caving in. But, he should cave. Legally speaking the Supreme Court doesn't like Congress adopting ad hoc reasons for barring members. Quite frankly, a nomination from
