3-0

I don't really pay much attention to college football these days -- an admission that I think would earn me an ass-kicking from Rob, Scott and Paul if I lived within driving distance of, well, anywhere -- but this must have been just about the crappiest bowl game ever.

It's been a while, evidently, since a bowl game ended with so few points on the board. The 1959 Cotton Bowl, the only same with fewer total points, ended in a nil tie. The account in the Dallas Morning News the next day is pretty amusing.
Early in the second period, the Air Force took the initiative, sweeping 52 yards to the TCU 6. Oddley enough, only one pass was employed by the smallish Falcons in that drive, one for 14 yards from substitute Quarterback Eddie Rosane to End Tom Joswiak. After TCU slowed the attack, Halfback George Pupich tried a field goal from the 12 but was wide to the left.

In defense of the unsuccessful kickers on both teams – Pupich and Spikes – it should be noted that the 10-mile-per-hour wind – played some tricks.
All the more reason to abolish the Air Force, if it can't compete in a 10 m.p.h. wind. What were the Russians supposed to make of this? Frankly, I'm amazed we ever won the Cold War.

Sarah Palin breaks silence on Tripp birth -slams press but tells no truths

Other than the mush and fluff about God turning lemons into lemonade with teen pregnancy, etc., immediately following is the nutgraf of Mayor Whazzup's statement:
Bill McAllister, the governor’s office communications director, adds: "The governor's office previously declined to comment to honor the family's wishes that the event remain as private as possible. However, the high volume of press inquiries, along with some erroneous information that was published, prompted the governor to make a statement.

I call bullshit.

WHAT "erroneous information"? If you're going to make that claim, that the press, or blogs like this, have gotten something wrong it's incumbent on YOU, Sarah Palin, to say WHAT we got wrong.

So, until you do that, your comment will be treated as just another lie from the Alaskan Addams Family.

Another lie? Telling People taht Bristol and Levi aren't high school dropouts; Levi, at least, certainly is.

And, other than rerunning press releases, is the Anchorage Daily News going to do further reporting on the issue? Doesn't look a lot like it.

Hillary, It is Time to be Great!

Eight years ago, when many in the US thought that it really didn't matter who was president and that the country could run on automatic pilot, George Bush was elected. At the time, he was thought to have had the greatest foreign-policy team of all time. Colin Powell. Dick Cheney. Condoleezza Rice. Incredible credentials. Yet, after the last eight years, to describe President Bush's foreign-policy as being a disaster is simply being kind. He's made little or no progress in the Middle East. As a matter of fact, some may suggest at this point that his administration has actually taken the peace process backwards five or ten years.

On January 20th, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have to hit the ground running. The lack of American leadership is palpable around the world. Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip for the last four days. They did this in retaliation to multiple rocket attacks into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. This is a typical scenario. Israel takes a pounding and then retaliates disproportionately. The retaliation inevitably causes an international outcry. Sometime soon thereafter, Israel stops the offensive and we go back to square one. Soon-to-be Secretary of State Hillary Clinton must break this cycle.
