US Immigration Policy

You'd think that with 533,000 lost jobs in November that the government would at least have the political sense to not give out so many foreign work visas. That is most definitely not the case:

I am wondering when the middle-class white male in the US reaches his breaking point. In the 90s, the "Angry White Male" was supposedly behind Gingrich and his mini-revolution in congress. Today, the white male actively loses his job to foreigners so wealthier white males can parade around in Washington handing out subsidies and easy, cheap-labor to their friends.

If foreigners can do the job for cheaper then there is market efficiency. This much I acknowledge. However, the politicians in DC don't care about efficiency, or even the efficiency/income-equality trade-off. If they did, they would remove the barriers (i.e., tax issues and welfare-state issues) that make Americans unable to compete with cheap foreign labor.

I find the immigration policy in the US to be reckless. I don't understand how race relations will improve if members of the majority ethnic group are taking cut after cut while their own government favors foreigners from very different ethnic groups. (This, on top of the fact that the US has never adequately dealt with Native American and Black issues.) The current immigration policy is a slap in the face to middle-class white males, regardless of what the economic variables are. It's not a market-forces issues at this point -- it's a public-relations problem with implications for the future of multiculturalism[1] efforts.

...

[1] Not that I believe in multiculturalism, at least as it's packaged and sold to us here in the Ivy League. Multiculturalism works when members of various ethnic/racial groups are sufficiently wealthy and educated. Multiculturalism works on Columbia's campus. I'm much less inclined to believe it works in the slums of a place like, say, South Los Angeles where I used to live. Multiculturalism for uneducated people means, at least to me, ethnic gangs and political battles over group-rights -- all disgusting outcomes of leftist thinking.
