As I noted yesterday, it looks like the "City of Champions" could be the city of higher property taxes, per this information from the city's website.br /br /span style="font-size:85%;"span style="font-family:lucida grande;"DUNCANVILLE CITY COUNCIL/spanbr /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"WORKSHOP/spanbr /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 2009, 8:30 A.M./spanbr /br /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"Duncanville Library/Community Center/spanbr /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"Meeting Rooms 1, 2 amp; 3/spanbr /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"201 James Collins Blvd./spanbr /br /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"AGENDA/spanbr /br /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"1. Discuss proposed budget for FY 09-10./spanbr /br /span style="font-family:lucida grande;"1. Consider calling a public hearing on August 18, 2009 on a tax increase due to the fact the proposed tax rate will exceed the rollback rate or the effective tax rate, whichever is lower./span/spanbr /br /For official state information on both rollback and effective tax rates, a href="http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/proptax/tnt09/intro.html"go here/a.br /br /I'm going to take a gander that this is due to slumping property valuations, and that the city, to run the same budget as last year, even with furlough days or something, will bust either the effective or rollback ceiling.br /br /Of course, there is always the possibility of losing a rollback election. To avoid that, how much more will the city have to cut, and where, if my gandering is correct?br /br /Shortened library and rec center hours, with some layoffs. Furlough days, to be sure. City salary freeze. That's among starters.div class="blogger-post-footer"There is no god and I am his prophet.img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7532871-5138176874845136803?l=socraticgadfly.blogspot.com'//div
